Bat Club - Gothic Dance Party Greenville Concert reviews
Return to Mars
I flew solo to the show in beautiful Ventura after failing to convince any of my friends to buy tickets right before they went on sale. The $20 ticket ended up costing over $35 due to excessive online fees.
My musical tastes range from the noisy and absurd to more mainstream, and I have to say that Bat Club - Gothic Dance Party is unlike any other show I've been to. Cedric Bixler Zavala's voice channels Robert Plant while his lyrics tell abstract tales of lust and loss through dark and perplexing imagery. Omar Rodriguez-Lopez's stage presence is as electrifying as Cedric's, creating an intense atmosphere.
The Ventura show was packed with excitement, featuring four new songs and old favorites like Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus, Roulette Dares, and The Widow. They covered songs from almost every album except Tremulant.
Some standout moments from the show included Cedric's excellent rendition of Ilyena, the thrilling live performance of Cotopaxi, and Omar's impressive thrash/jam moments during Goliath and Viscera Eyes. Despite the lack of an encore, I left the show feeling satisfied.
Overall, it was an awesome and exhilarating experience, especially for those in the pit. My only complaint would be that I struggled to hear Ikey throughout the show. Can't wait to see the band in San Francisco!
